This simple but striking design, with its clean lines and bold colours, is a great example of the modernist style or perhaps something between modernism and art deco. Moving away from excessive detail and ornament, we see growing use of modernism in commercial art and design from the 1940s onwards, particularly by the 1950s.
At the time of this menu, Buffalo, New York, had a large Russian population. The drinks list of the Russian Bar totalled seven pages and included flips, daisies, rickeys, sours and smashes.
