MS Meteor, Bergen Line, 1970

£20.00

Built in Denmark in 1955 the MS Meteor began sailing under Norwegian Bergen Line colours, mostly Northern European cruises, including Baltic countries and New Zealand. The Meteor also took a turn operating the “Hurtigruten” (Express Service) along Norway’s coast, bringing access to many otherwise remote communities.

While on an Alaska cruise from Vancouver in 1971, she caught fire and was badly damaged; 32 crew members died in the blaze. The Meteor was subsequently declared a total loss and sold to the Greek line Epirotiki, who then rebuilt the ship and sailed her under the name MS Neptune until 1995. She was placed in storage, and eventually scrapped in 2002.
