Hotel Astor, New York 1953

£20.00

Built in 1904, the Astor Hotel had elaborately decorated public rooms and a beautiful rooftop garden with a bandstand and an observatory. Situated in New York’s Times Square, it was a popular pre-theatre meeting place and the restaurant thoughtfully provided the curtains-up time for all the plays that were on Broadway, including South Pacific, Dial M for Murder and The Seven Year Itch. This 1953 menu cover is similar in style to other menus created for hotels such as the Hotel Roosevelt in New Orleans, adapted by the artist for each individual property.
