Tricity Restaurant, London 1927

£20.00

The interior cocktail shaker-shaped menu is a wine and cocktail list from the Tricity Restaurant in London, England, which in 1927 had state-of-the-art lighting, cooking and refrigeration facilities using electricity. Domestic use of electricity was still limited at this time – only the wealthy had electricity in their homes. In the 1930s, a British government-assisted wiring scheme encouraged people to begin connecting supplies to their homes.  A review of the Tricity Restaurant by a critic from The Lady magazine describes the bright lighting as being “like sunshine indoors” and customers were reassured that there was nothing to be worried about because food cooked by electricity tastes “delicious“.
